Other than Southpoint Mall, we're looking for really good wood-fired fresh pizza in the area. We're near Southpoint; area of Rte 54 between Chapel Hill and Rte. 55. Any suggestions? Also or may be same, a good (not fine dining but not chain) Italian restaurant. TIA
Maybe not what you're looking for, but hands down the best pizza I've had in a while is from the Pie Pushers truck. Order a whole pie to go one night and enjoy.
I live near Southpoint also and I prefer Randy's Pizza near the Hope Valley and Garrett Rd intersection. Love their Pepperoni and Italian Sausage pizza (crumbled kind).
My favorite in that area is Amante, but Randy's is really good too. There's an Alfredo's in the Hope Valley Commons at the intersection of 54 and 751. I've haven't tried it yet, but the one in Chapel Hill is great.
As for local Italian, I like Pulcinella in the Woodcroft Shopping Center.

Bocci in Sutton Station has good pizza. I think they have a brick oven version. Not sure if that is the same as wood fire. Bocci is great this time of year too. You can sit outside and enjoy Sutton Stations courtyard.
For regular pizza, I actually like Alfredo's (in Hope Valley Commons) over Randy's nearby on Hope Valley Rd. Randy's crust is sometimes tough. But neither are wood fired.

It's not wood-fired, but Rudino's, located in the Kroger plaza near the mall, is my favorite pizza.
