I just saw a national news channel talking about the Apex police department tracking/listening to cell phone calls of private citizens without getting a warrant. The Apex police chief confirmed they do this in some cases. Is this something y'all are aware of? Is this accepted here?

Sounds kind of strange. For that to happen there needs to be a warrent and then feature has to be enabled in the nodes the FCC notified....it is quite a procedure.
They can't do it on their own without the carriers help.

Looks like this is true and Apex is not the only city/town in NC doing this.

Note that wiretapping -- actually listening to a call -- is not the same as tracking the phone's usage, meaning the location of the phone, calling and called numbers, etc. I'm not defending either practice, but there is a difference under the law.

Links, please, so I can better understand your assertion.

Thanks.

The last part of this article notes that a similar case will be reviewed by the U.S. Court of Appeals later this year.

Default Credible threat

Isn't there a nuclear power plant in Apex? Maybe this has something to do with that?

Default tracking

If it is electronic...it can be tracked and most likely even if it is not tracked data is being logged for later review if needed. Cell phones can have the battery removed.
