Isnt that the argument that Californians make about their produce versus NC produce?

Even California farmers admit their strawberries are grown for shelf life, not flavor. In order for a soft berry to get from the West Coast to here without rotting it's picked before it has a chance to develop most of its sugars and then gassed to have it ripen red. Learned about the strawberry industry in one of my classes at State; really interesting stuff.

I paid $1.55 per pound at Oakley. The other one I looked at (Jean's) was the same price.

ETA: This is one of the best sites to find Pick-Your-Own farms. I've been using the site for years: www.pickyourown.org

Here are the farms in central NC (scroll down a bit to find your county): http://www.pickyourown.org/NCpiedmont.htm

Prince Farm? Never heard of it and there is nothing on the Internet with that name in Apex.

In Apex I've seen:

- Buckwheat Farm
- DJ's Berry Patch
- Jean's Berry Patch
