We stayed there when we were scouting for housing. They were clean and relatively cheap. While we were there, they were replacing all the beds.

There are some Value Place hotels around too that charge $199 for the week if that would work?

Where? The only one's I can find online are Apex and Garner.

(we're looking for the same thing as the OP, close to Brier Creek or RDU with fridge and microwave.)

Yes that is correct. Apex is only 10 or 15 minutes from Downtown Raleigh and the one in Garner is only a few miles from Downtown Raleigh. So they are fairly close.

Be careful of the extended stay hotels. They seem to have a lot of low income families living in them full time, at least that has been my experience here in Florida.

Depends on your definition of budget, but the Fairfield Inn & Suites at Brier Creek had a AAA rate of $75/night when I stayed there in Feb.
