I would think you would really like it if you liked Tahoe. I'm from N. Cal (Woodland) and spent alot of time in north shore LT, and all my parents family lived in the gold country. This area reminds me alot of the Auburn, Placerville area. Rolling hills, the pines, and the red dirt. But its definitely not as cold as Tahoe, and very little snow here comparatively. Its much hotter & humid in the summer. And there are lakes...but not the clear deep type...shallow, muddy & warm. There are plenty of outdoor activities, camping and boating, and beach is not far. Skiing is 3 hours out west from here...and won't even be close to Tahoe quality. It depends what is important to you...good luck!
Well i love the mountains but I don't ski. I love the cali foothills. Tahoe is just soooo expensive and we want to be closer to family. thanks for your response.
Well, if you live in Truckee and hate snow, this can't help but be a positive move.
On a more general note, there's certainly a huge difference between small-town Truckee and the Triangle. We moved here from SF, so similar in moving from Northern California, but totally different environment changes.
Would certainly help if you talked a bit more about what you're looking for or not looking for in a new location. Truckee and the Triangle are very different, but that might be a good thing in your eyes.
I actually lived in Truckee for a year as a kid. Wouldn't do that again...even if I were a kid again...too much snow for me! But I know the area very well. It is very different here. We have the pines, but this is not mountain country, no quaint mountain towns. Its city and suburbs in and around Raleigh (and other big cities), and fairly rural otherwise with small towns and some farming.
I actually live SF! I love city life buy husband is more suburbia. So a mix would be best. I love the small town feel as wee though. We need great schools. My cousin is on Apex and am looking into there. Suggestions on that idea? Smalhappy I found people who know Truckee. I have lived in Truckee for ten years but born ans raised right outside of New York city.

I lived in California for twenty but that was long ago. Do people actually call it "Cali" now?
