Rosemary Thorton, (RosemaryT here on C-D) is coming to Raleigh on the weekend of May 18-30, 2012 to give two talks on Kit Homes in Raleigh, and do a book appearance and signing at Third Place Coffee.

From the Raleigh Historic District Development Commission newsletter:
MADE TO ORDER: KIT HOMES IN RALEIGH
During the first half of the twentieth century Sears, Roebuck, and Company and a handful of other companies sold mail-order homes. Ordered from a catalog, the houses (and assembly instructions) were shipped to the buyer piece by piece. Rosemary Thornton, a leading authority on Sears Modern Homes, recognizes that Raleigh has an impressive collection. Join RHDC in exploring Raleigh’s treasure trove:

Meet Rosemary: A Book Signing
Saturday, May 19, 3:30 p.m.
Third Place, 1811 Glenwood Avenue
Featuring Rosemary Thornton, author of The Houses that Sears Built and Finding the Houses that Sears Built.

As you can see, she's got a pretty full weekend. I had hoped to follow up with her on my request a few months ago to join a group of us C-Ders who are interested in the old homes here in Raleigh to walk a neighborhood with an expert… she's an enthusiastic member here and wants to arrange a meet-up… but during that particular weekend, she's taken

She suggested having a meet-up on Thursday evening, May 17th at 7:00pm here in Glenwood-Brooklyn, which is down the street from the Rialto Theatre in Five Points where she'll be talking on Saturday the 19th.

If this time and date prove to be too difficult for folks here, being a 'school night' we may be able to arrange a date around August sometime.

Please comment with your interest in this date, a future date in August sometime, or any other pertinent commentary

Maybe we can get North Raleigh Guy to precede our group with a trombone fanfare! At the very least, we can come to our place for refreshment if it's a smaller group, or invade one of the many good Publick Houses nearby… who would perhaps welcome some live trombone tunes

Thanks for the sticky, mods!
