If the Triangle continues to be considered two separate MSAs when updated by the Census in 2013, I wonder if any counties will be added to either of the two MSAs or if counties might flip from on MSA to the other.
One county that might see a flip is Chatham. Right now, it's part of the Durham/Chapel Hill MSA but Cary's westward march in the 2000s has pushed into Chatham. I wonder if that has made an impact on the commuting patterns of the county to point that it's now more affiliated with Raleigh/Cary than Durham/Chapel Hill?
Other Counties that I can imagine being added to one of the MSAs are as follows:
Harnett to Raleigh/Cary
Granville to either of the MSAs or at least to the CSA
Alamance County from Greensboro's MSA to Durham's MSA
I can definitely see Lee county added to the Raleigh/Cary MSA especially since the US 1 upgrade a few years ago, very busy travel corridor. I really feel they need to regroup the whole Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill/Cary area back together like it was previously. It really makes so little since to those whole live and work here. Because don't we all fairly often float between the areas. a store run in cary, a durham bulls game, a parade in raleigh etc.

Yes...that is actually how many people live in the Triangle but, apparently, the "powers that be" only seem to be concerned with work commuting patterns.
