Hi All,

Who is the best dermatologist in the Triangle? I am specifically looking for someone who specializes in body acne and skin rashes.

I have this really weird acne/rash problem that isn't responding to normal acne medications. I have seen several dermatologists and even had a biopsy done, yet my problem still persists, and my doctors are still trying to figure out what's going on.

I really feel like I need the opinion of someone who has a lot of experience with this type of thing.

Thanks so much!

I do not know the best, but my strong recommendation is to NOT go to Dr. Kulp in Cary.

Most derms deal with acne and atopic dermatitis on a daily basis. In your case, however, when there is a problem even determining the actual issue, it would probably be best to go to a teaching institution, like Duke, where the physicians see more atypical cases and also have access to other specialists that can assist with proper diagnosis and treatment.

Hate to provide another NON recommendation, but I recently saw Dr. Kendall Hash on Blue Ridge Road and I was very disappointed. I got whisked in and out of there so fast...I didn't get to ask all my questions and ended up paying for services I didn't want.

Since then someone has recommended Dr. Ann Tuveson....

My girlfriend uses Pipkin at the Duke practice in Patterson Place. She's gone to get some cancerous lesions removed and can certainly recommend her as having great bedside manner. She only visits once a year now but Dr. Pipkin remembers her well (asked about how the trip to Greece went last summer, for instance). Don't know about how good she is with acne or rashes, though, but she's board certified so it shouldn't be a problem.

I've been to several derms in the Triangle area and all were notorious for long wait times and then rushing through the visit. I've been most satisfied with Dr. Cardones at Duke Hospital. She was still quick with the visit but did at least take the time to listen to my issues. It may take some time to get in to see her though - she stays booked.

Dr. Ann Tuveson is a good doctor, but her office lacks the polish deserving of follow up care. If I get a hunk of skin removed, I want written instructions that tell me how to care for the stitches! Ask lots of questions, I guess. Or, if I miss a callback, I expect a message or another callback the next day! YMMV.

Ooh, I saw Dr Kendall Hash and loved her. I'm sad that you had a bad experience there because I've recommended her to others.

I moved to NC 2 years back and got the first acne burst of my life (and I'm well past my teenage).
I went to a few dermatologists and did NOT like the diagnosis (because nothing changed).
After wasting 6-7 months, I went to an esthetician who runs Luminosity Acne Skincare in Cary.

I love what she has done to my skin and so does the esthetician I now go to facials for. She specializes only in acne treatment and I really like that because I am not a fan of mr (or in this case miss) do-it-all.

She has done wonders to my severe acne situation.. and given far better results than what the dermatologists could have even tried.
PM me if you need her contact information.

I had the same experience with Dr. Hash. Her nurse was very nice but seemed more interested in telling me how she deals with dry skin rather than listening to my symptoms. Then Dr. Hash came in and diagnosed me in under 1 minute despite the fact that I knew what I had was not typical eczema, which I have suffered for over 30 years, and unfortunately was very familiar with.

I went back again and got the same treatment. Spent a lot of money and was not cured.

Won't go back again.
