We lived in Clayton for a little over a year. Though we did not live in a development, we absolutely loved living there. The whole community has a very nice "vibe" as my wife would say.
I live in an apartment near downtown Clayton and really like it. The area are older. Lots of neat looking older houses. I've spent some time recently learning a little about Clayton's history and even visiting two interesting grave yards What can I say? I'm the curious type.
I lived in Wake for a couple of years and decided I wanted a smaller town atmosphere. There are many things that I haven't ventured out to do here yet, such as some of the seasonal festivals and activities. I believe there is a farmers type market coming up?
My husband went to the community center and for I believe he said was 5 bucks we have a membership. The walking track is what I'm interested in, but I haven't gotten my ID done from them yet. Been soo busy
The schools. Well I will probably always have some school issues with my child since she is on an IEP I have to constantly be on her teachers and her, which I always have been. She's had some crappy teachers and some really good ones. Just being honest. We have experienced Riverwood Middle and now Clayton High, but I think you will find that anywhere. Some of the best teachers she has here are some of the best she has ever had!
There is a local board too if you Google 4042 board. I can't recall if I can say or post the link? I haven't posted there yet, but I do check it out from time time.
There is a used bookstore out here too if you love to read that we hit every few months and end up spending 30 bucks for loads of books!
Anyway. I really like it here and who knows. Maybe I will buy a house here one day too.

Probably not in the town of Clayton!
However, if you find a couple of acres in Johnston or Wake County (outside of the town limits), you should be able to have your farm.
On Covered Bridge road, I've passed be a large field of cows grazing. I've seen what looks like some farm land too. There was also a house with some chickens hanging out, outside, too close to the road. I'm not sure if this helps you, but its the part of the road headed towards the River Wood area.

I was stopping in the Broadmoor subdivision yesterday and saw through the yard a bunch of horses (house across the yard was not in the subdivision) and we too see cows/animals as we drive covered bridge road through Clayton. I don't know much though, we've only lived here 2 weeks!
The horses are on Cleveland Road, between Broadmore and Hunters Mill. There are several horse farms on Cleveland Road.
