I had one at Rex and one at WakeMed Raleigh. I'd recommend Rex. Aside from having my baby there, I've had surgery there twice and would recommend it to anyone. Mid Carolina OBGYN is right next door. If you are going to change your doctor, you should check them out. They're great.
Thank you all so much for your replies. This is very helpful and I really appreciate each of you taking the time to respond. :-)
One of my girlfriends had a cervical problem during her pregnancy and had to get a procedure done at Duke. She had a pretty bad experience and that's why I'm kinda apprehensive about Duke.
Besides Duke, are any of the others teaching hospitals?
I am sure you can find someone who had a bad experience at every hospital in the area. My friend delivered at Rex and was really upset about the quality of breast feeding support. Her LO had a problem and she did not feel like it was addressed. At the same time I had another friend who had a wonderful experience at Rex.
We have delivered 3 kids at Rex and it was great. Wife used Wilkerson which is just steps away from the delivery section. They have about 6 or 8 doctors I think.

I tend to agree with this. Regardless of the facility, for every bad experience, you are going to be able to find several good ones. I had my kiddos prior to moving to NC so I have no specific recommendation on a hospital, but for me personally, I was much more concered about the quality of OB care I received for my entire pregnancy. I was very comfortable with my doctor and her team, and that was why I decided to go with her, the hospitial she delivered at wasn't really as much of a factor for me in choosing a doctor.
Also, don't discount the distance of the hospital from your home. While you may have plenty of time to drive to the hospital for the actual labor as some PP have said, labor may not be the only time that you have go in. For my first child I had to go in for twice weekly monitoring for the last 2 months of my pregnancy. I would have hated to have to go all the way across town for every one of those sessions.
Congratulations and good luck with whatever you decide.
If you'd recommend (or not recommend) an Ob/Gyn (and practice) that delivers at Rex Raleigh or WakeMed Cary (turns out they're both geographically closest too), could you please PM me? Am not sure how much detail one is allowed (or should share) on the public board in terms of specific docs. :-) Thanks!

pfish, could you please PM me and let me know what you and your wife thought of your experience with Wilkerson? Thanks!
I've just moved to the area too. 5.5 months pregnant and looking for OB (I prefer female doctor). This thread is very helpful about the hospital. I think I will try to go do the tour at Wake Med Cary.
I would appreciate also if anyone would recommend a great female OB. Thank you so much.
