Often times threads get moved or closed on this forum, not for being offensive or out of line, but simply because they do not neatly fit into the box (or should I say "Triangle") set force by the TOS. I'm not complaining, I'd rather have a mod like DotM that is consistent, fair, and you know what to expect from, rather than one that plays favorites or only enforces the rules when he wants to. And this is coming from someone that has more than one thread closed or moved by our head-mod-in-charge. I've always understood it, even when I didn't like it.

The reasons these threads pop up, though, is because someone has something to share that he specifically wants to share with THESE forum members, even if it is only tangentially related to the Triangle. Also, though a forum might be about a beach, or a gardening technique, the reason the poster is asking here is often because they trust and/or value the collective opinions of THESE forum members. There are many forum members here that do not post on any other board (though conversely I've noticed a few which seem like they post on every board)

IMO, having a chat thread would allow there to be a place to contain off-topic conversations. A place to share info, ask questions, or direct forum regulars to threads you may have posted on a more appropraite board, like Coastal Carolina, Technology, Gardening, or the like.

So what do you think?

- Yes

-No

or

-Other (explain)

edit: In true democratic fashion, it is closed poll, so no one can see waht you voted. There is also precedence for the a chat thread:

Though I think if we do get one it should be a sticky

We're only supposed to have two stickies per forum, so to add a Chat thread, we'd have to eliminate either the Photo or the Happenings thread.

This has actually been discussed before -- more recently, about this time last year:

Keep the stickied Photo thread?

New sticky thread (part deux)

New sticky?

That said -- whatever you folks want is what we'll have (assuming it falls within the TOS), so speak up!

Hmm, well I like both of the stickies. Haven't really read many of the what's happening because we are not there yet. However, I can see how it can be nice for people who are already in triangle area. But I have really enjoyed the photos thread. But it would also be nice to have a chat thread. Oh boy, tough choice.

Too bad we can't have three stickies that's my vote.

I don't see why it would necessarily need to be a sticky. I'm sure like the Wake County school thread it will get bumped to the top often lol.

I voted no. We have an active forum with good participation. Chat threads tend to siphon off contributions to discussion threads, and often create a cliquish environment of a handful of regulars.

I never really thought of it that way, but I can definitely see your point.

The happenings thread is lame, we could do without that one, even though it was just recently brought back.
