The polls I've read indicate the the amendment is likely to pass (polls I've seen show 55% for, 45% against). Living in the Triangle, it is easy to forget North Carolina is squarely in the Bible Belt. I expect the amendment won't last, though. Either it will be overturned by the US federal courts, similar to how anti-miscegenation laws were overturned, or it will be changed as the younger and more tolerant ages.
I read that Raleigh News & Observer poll too, but I just don't see it happening. Tomorrow we'll know if they're right.
Correct, the U.S. Supreme Court will have the final say on this issue regardless of tomorrow's vote.
There is nothing more essentially American than having the right to live your life the way you choose without government interference as long as you're not causing harm to anyone else. If we don't protect that central idea, what does it mean to be free? Protecting the idea of freedom means that we will have to accept that others choose to live their lives in ways we may not approve of. How else can we protect our own freedoms when we are not in the majority?
As a psychologist, I know that children of same-sex couples are just as happy and well-adjusted as children of heterosexual couples. What damages them is society's continued ousting of their families. This isn't my opinion; it is well documented in the scientific literature.
While I realize that voting against will not give their parents the right to get legally married, I am looking forward to voting against this amendment that would certainly force us to take a step backward in our social evolution.
My simple hope is that today the people of the State of North Carolina will rise above bigotry, hatred and fear, and vote to affirm the basic human rights of all, by voting AGAINST this Amendment.

I have yet to hear one valid argument for changing the constitution--saying God wants it that way isn't a valid argument. What ever happened to separating church and state? it's obvious which way I'll be voting today.
I'd remind folks voting to vote *both* sides of the ballot. As an example, the Durham County Republican ballot has the Amendment (and only the Amendment) on the back.
FWIW - after reading the existing North Carolina General Statute - NCGS 51 (51-1 and 51-1.2) , I voted against the amendment. Pained as I was to vote as the N&O suggested.
Am already hearing shenanigans at the polls, so BE AWARE!
I had not been aware, before this election, that if you are 17 but will be 18 before the November election, you can vote in the Primary in May at 17 1/2, but ONLY of those races that will also be on the November ballot. This of course does not include referenda such as this Amendment. Thus, they have special "under-18" version of every ballot that don't have the Amendment on it.
Reports are coming in of adults being given the "under-18" ballot that does not have the Amendment on it, so BE AWARE. Check your ballot fron and back; it is the last item on the ballot, regardless.
Soomeone else, I don't know in what city, overheard a poll worker telling someone to "vote what the Bible would want" <!!!!!>
Please be on the lookout for ANY tomfoolery at the polls, including campaigners harassing/intimidating voters, getting closer than 25 feet of the polling place, wrong ballots being given, or of course "advice" being given out by poll workers. Report to the precinct judge (the one in charge) and also call 1-866-687-8683 (866 OUR VOTE) immediately and get the names of those involved.
