I need to have insurance on my new house which will close in about two weeks. Right now I have insurance on my old house (on market now) and two cars back in my previous state. I am just wondering whether I can just add the new house to my insurance company (allstate) with my current agent. If yes, what's the good and bad about having your agent out of state? Thanks!

I kept my Tampa Metlife agent for home owners when we moved here. I personally have never needed to contact him so it hasn't been an issue. I switched my auto when I got here because I got a better rate with Geico but otherwise I would have left that with him too.

Is your present agent licensed to write insurance out of state? I believe the Allstate offices are all independent agents and might only be licensed in the state they are in.

I've heard it said that auto insurance in NC is among the lower rates, so you might want to look into that too.

Our auto insurance went down more than $500 for three cars... I'd definitely look into having it adjusted, even if you stay with the same company (that's what we did).

Talk to your agent. You can keep it with Allstate, you may just have a different agent servicing your policy here.
