Hi
Could anyone give me their preferences on these two restaurants re: atmosphere, wknd entertainment, age of crowd and basically your preference out of both. I have been to Tony's but never 42nd st. Are they similar? Thanks Chris

IMO Tony's has better food. I believe the owner is Gino Russo, and used to have a restaurant on Glenwood, and was a chef at Angus Barn prior to that. I'm sure C-D posters have more information. I could be wrong, but that is what I heard.

It needs some renovation, though. Starting to show some age. Great hushpuppies, she crab soup, peel & eat shrimp, flounder sandwich. We don't eat oysters so I can't comment on those.

At 42nd street I had crabcakes and they weren't very good. Too much filler and the crabmeat wasn't lump. But we were there late night, sitting in the bar watching a band. As a bar it's a great place. We had a lot of fun there.

Tony's hands down. 42nd Street used to be the place, but the food quality has gone down so much. The last time I was at 42nd Street I got a Tuna Steak(Rare). It had zero seasoning. Several of my friends that are native Carolinians say the same thing.

I've been to both several times since oysters are some of my favorite things ever! I personally prefer Tony's for oysters hands down. For seafood in general I have found them to be roughly the same.

Tony's is better. But of course 42nd has the location going for it. You can do all others after dinner around downtown. Drinks, desserts, lounges, bars, etc.
