Also, I would argue that while Chapel Hill and Carrboro are definitely foodie Mecca (along with Durham) they too have their fair share of Big chains and fast food places. It's not like they don't exist over there - yes there are less of them but I don't know how it breaks out "per capita". All I know is I can dine at an Applebees or Chilis in Chapel Hill or at a Wendy's in Carrboro just as easily as I can in Raleigh.
Nope. You can't. We don't have an Applebees or a Chilis. There's a Chilis nearby in Durham and there used to be an Applebees in CH, but it has been gone for about 5 years now.

There are a few fast food chains and a couple of regional chains that are a little bit nicer like Red Bowl and Brixx pizza, but I can't think of any of those mid-level chains like Applebees, Olive Garden, etc that are in Chapel Hill or Carrboro.

ETA: Oh, there is a Shula's 347 Steakhouse at the Sheraton.

Yeah, Brixx is one of those regional chains. They have restaurants mostly in NC with a couple in SC and Va and TN.

Hi Ben!! Our kids are really close in age Why are you guys leaving the valley and what part of Phoenix? If you have any moving tips - let me know, we're still researching the best way to get 3 kids and 2 dogs along with all our stuff across the country. Exciting and interesting times! Good luck to you and your family!

I am actually Jennifer, benbidder is a silly nickname. We are leaving because my husband has lived his whole 42 years here and he is just tired of the desert. He wants trees, green, etc. He said he is willing to put up with the humidity though! We live in the outskirts of Surprise, out like you are going to Wickenburg...

We also have the pet issue. What we came up with was to buy an RV. We are looking on Craigstlist and you can get some nice ones for a decent price! We have 2 dogs and 3 cats...so...yeah, it will be interesting, but I think it will be easier than doing hotels and such. I mean, going and stopping somewhere to eat will be easier knowing they are in an RV than in a teeny tiny crammed 4Runner, lol.

We are also having a moving company move all of our stuff. We were looking into a UHaul, but then again, with the pets and such...and we have a LOT of stuff! Ugh! We are totally trying to downsize as we go, realizing that we will not have as large of a house there like we do here...

Maybe we will end up finding each other over there..
