Hello. I've searched landscaping on here and I've seen a ton of recommendations for people to plant trees, bushes etc... but what I need isn't that.

I need some help as I just bought a house in Garner. The wife and I knew the backyard was going to need some work... but now that we're getting moved in to the house we've realized it's way more than we can do.

The back yard is probably about 1/4 acre, fenced in, with a stormwater basin in the back corner.

The perimeter is surrounded by huge pine trees. Needless to say, the back yard is covered in pine needles.

I went back this past weekend and realized there must be between 6 - 12 inches of pine straw back there. Under it is cut down trees, and rocks, from who knows how long ago.

On top of that, there is no grass to speak of because the yard is at a slope and it seems that the backyard is just washing away for the past decade +.

Downspouts from the house just hang and aren't connected to anything and are just helping wash the back yard away.

I say all of this to say that what I think I'm going to need is someone to come in and clear out all the crap, then bring a few truck loads of dirt in. Then, hopefully we could plant grass. May have to take down a few trees as well so the sun actually hits the ground and can keep it dry. Also I'm thinking the downspouts need to be drained back towards the stormwater basin... or at the least get them away from draining next to the foundation.

I'm guessing this is going to cost thousands. And if I'm going to get this done, I'm hoping some of you may know a good company that would do this.

Thanks much for any input and/or your help, and for reading this

First step is to put this list in task sequence order.
(and perhaps get assistance with that overall plan & the design)

Then it's about hiring out the jobs most of which are just bull labor...
with some supervision of the help and maybe renting a tool here and there.
One big nasty dirty job a week for a month or so.

Plan/Design: Earth Graphics: Home Landscape Design and Landscape Garden Designs
Bull Labor: raleigh / durham / CH labor & moving classifieds - craigslist
Semi Skilled Labor: raleigh / durham / CH farm & garden services classifieds - craigslist

Thanks for the suggestions.

@Mr. Rational - I didn't even think about Craig's List. Great advice! Thanks for posting the hyperlinks too!
