There are a lot of states in which you have to pay personal property tax, even if you do rent. In VA we also had a car tax, even though it has been rolled back 70% in the last 8 years. There are also other states that require you to pay personal property taxes. Again this is a tax on cars, boats, R/V's, etc...this is not a tax on real estate.

In VA we not only had to pay vehicle tax, but because we lived in the city limits we also had to pay for a special windshield sticker that was above and beyond the vehicle tax. And, around Richmond we also had toll roads.

We had toll roads in NoVA as well, but that is different, since you can choose not to use those roads. This is the first year NoVA localities are doing away with the windshield locality sticker next to the inspection sticker. A lot of other areas of VA are also doing away with the local sticker.
