Hi -- my husband & I are thinking of relocating to clayton/apex area. Does anyone on this site keep their boat on a slip somewhere off the intercoastal -- if not does it make sense to bring a 33' with a 12' beam chris craft down or sell first before we move? And around how much does it cost for the slip and how long do you keep on the slips -- also hurricane action?

Any ideas would be welcomed -- appreciate the help

I'm not an expert on this, but my dad has kept a boat in both Havelock and New Bern. New Bern is closer and would be about 2 hrs 15 min from Apex, maybe less from Clayton. If you Google "Marina New Bern" you'll find several options, and many have their rates on line. Here is an example of rates: Northwest Creek Marina

When there have been threatened hurricanes my dad has generally gone and anchored his boat in the middle of the creek, as do most of the people in the marina.

There is a great new Marina I just learned about in New Bern NC. They are completely renovating the Marina by the Sheraton Hotel. It is called the New Bern Grand Marina and looks great.. I talked to Judy Hollister at the Mumfest last weekend. We plan to park our cabin cruiser there. Check it out. New Bern Grand Marina

Newbern is on the neuse and trent rivers, the intercoastal is about 20 miles down river in Adams creek, another 15 miles to Morehead from there. It will take you 2 hours from clayton to Newbern. The Marina downtown has been renovated and they are putting a new drawbridge in. That marina is quite costly and never seems to have many open slips lately, NW marina further down the river off Broadcreek road gets about $86 a foot per year. at least thats what I pay, been there three years might be higher now. Last time I checked they had a two year waiting list. The other marina will be much higher. Word of caution the Pamilco sound and Neuse river have a lot of skinney water ,I have run these waters all my life and still once in a blue moon find the bottom by mistake. Can be very tricky navigating have been told its nothing like up north so please be carefull and take the time to do your research and get charts. can get real expensive real quick.
