I am trying to find out how to go about getting a copy of the plans for my existing home? The house was built in Clayton by Windsor Construction Company, Inc. in 2004 and based on the deed the officer for the company was Frank Johnson. I can't find anything on this company now and Johnston County only keeps records of plans for 5 years. I am now working on planning an addition and I need the plans to get an engineer to sign off on my floorplan.

Help, thoughts, advice appreciated!

Look it up on MLS and see who the company and/or listing agent that did the marketing. They may have a copy.

On two occasions in my life I've asked a home builder for copies of the house plans for a newly constructed house I bought (with an offer to pay for them). In both instances the builder told me that they would not provide a copy of the plans.

North Carolina Secretary of State

North Carolina Secretary of State

Filings indicate the Corporation was dissolved in 2010, but there is a street address in Clayton.

Custom builders will usually give you a set of the blueprints. Tract builders won't...they claim they are copyrighted and "can't" share.

Vicki, I have the deed history and I know when the builder bought the house from the developer. How do I use that info to find the builder's agent?

I guess this happens and it depends on what the engineer is looking at - but "plans" and "as-builts" are not always the same thing. I'd want someone eye balling it if its something important.
