Try the Cameron Bar & Grill in Cameron Village. They have a small bar with tv's that I don't think a lot of people realize is there. I've watched a few games there without being mobbed by people.
What about that sports bar that's always crowded next to NC State. The one next to Davids Dumpling and Noodle place. I can't recall the name. It's only a block away from Cameron Village.
I've been to Player's Retreat. They play music too, but if you ask them, they will turn up the audio on the tv you're watching, but only enough that you can barely hear it.
It's funny that with all the bars in Raleigh that have televisions with sports on (>95% of bars it seems), exceedingly few are actually legit sports bars that play game audio.
thanks, yeah Players Retreat was what I was thinking of. According to IndyWeek Best of 2012, best place to watch sports in Downtown is Tobacco Road Sports Cafe and Woody's @ City Market.
I went to Tobacco Road Sports Cafe last night. They had plenty of TVs, but the volume on the NBA Finals game was loud enough to hear only if you sat in the row of chairs facing one particular wall. If you were at the bar, you couldn't make out what was being said.
And this is supposed to be the best place to watch sports in Raleigh??? I guess the only games people care enough about down here that the sports bars will turn up the volume on are college basketball games.
