More interesting recent reads for the naysayers/uninformed. Here's an article regarding Miami Marlins tickets (in their brand new park no less!!!!!!!!!!!!!) going for $1.70-$3.00 on StubHub. Miami Marlins Tickets Now Selling for Less than $2.00

And yet more two others on the Tampa (hopefully someday in the near future CAROLINA) Rays (if the region becomes informed and shows some willpower). Has a baseball team ever won so much and drawn so few as the Tampa Bay Rays? - Tampa Bay Times Rays' Recent Success Hasn't Translated into Higher Attendance Numbers | Bleacher Report

This is supposed to convince us to bring MLB to the Triangle??

Despite the $500+ million poured into the building of the team’s stadium, very few people in South Florida seem to want to attend the games. After initially selling out on Opening Night, the Marlins’ attendance has steadily dropped like a rock off a cliff.

OK then, how about Target Field in Minneapolis? Could have been the Carolina Twins, in a state with nearly 10 million less people than the Carolinas, yet they now get 40K per game and their field is ranked as the "#1 Stadium Experience in North America" by ESPN.

Contrary to popular belief, life in Miami for the average Joe does NOT resemble a music video. To call Miami fans fickle would be way too kind. The fact is that Miami is widely regarded as the worst sports city in the country, with dozens of other entertainment options than the Triangle has, does not have near the growth/jobs/family appeal, not to mention is MUCH more isolated from the rest of their state, both geographically and culturally, than the Triangle is from the rest of the Carolinas. Yet they still support big league ball and the Carolinas don't?

I'll happily support it. Tell your billionaire friends to snap up a team, build themselves a nice stadium and I'll buy tickets to a game or two ... maybe even a hot dog.

Stu Sternberg and Lew Wolff both have alienated their cities to no end and would clearly be better off by selling or moving to the Carolinas by any objective look. These situations appear to be complete dead ends in their current markets. Also, Bud Selig will not be the commissioner after 2014, and who knows if the next commissioner will be so intent at staying at 30 teams and the "territorial rights" that Selig is.

The point now is to plant the seeds in the minds of the citizens/leaders of this region/state that we are clearly ready for MLB, and will only continue to be moreso, that the benefits are clear, and that WHEN (not if) this opportunity presents itself, we will be ready!!!

I think you're confusing Sternberg with former Rays owner Vince Naimoli here, who really did alienate the community every way possible, up to and including his insistence that a high school band that came to perform the national anthem had to buy tickets to gain admission into the game. The fact of the matter is that the Trop is an awful stadium that was built to suit any generic team in a bid to attract relocation of either the White Sox or the Giants and became a white elephant before the first pitch at a Devil Ray's game was ever thrown. It was built to a stadium design philosophy twenty years past its prime and sited poorly. I've no doubt that a new stadium built more towards Tampa than St. Pete would do wonders for that team's attendance.

If Tampa has good fans, then explain this....Bucs create incentives aimed at moving Week One tickets | ProFootballTalk

Bucs Desperate to Sell Out Home Opener

The Buccaneers hope to launch the Greg Schiano with a ship full of fans.
The team announced on Wednesday a variety of incentives for the Week One home game against the Panthers and Cam Newton. The measures, via BayNews9.com, include free parking in select lots, a 50-percent discount on concessions, and a commemorative Ronde Barber gym sack.
Barber, a 16-year veteran, will be starting his 200th consecutive game on September 9.
Tickets to the Week One game go on sale Friday, and the seats can be purchased at Buccaneers.com.
The Bucs have struggled for the past several years to sell out Raymond James Stadium. The franchise undoubtedly hopes that a strong turnout for the first game of the regular season will set the right tone for the remaining home dates.

The fact is that if Miami has the worst fans in the country, Tampa is a strong #2. Many good quotes from Sternberg can be found here, 2011 ALDS: Tampa Bay Rays owner Stuart Sternberg frustrated - ESPN, including "When I came in here in '05 and '06, I saw the stars, and I was confident that we could put a winning product on the field -- and I was told by you guys and others that all we needed was a winning team," Sternberg said. "Well, we won. We won. We won. And we won. And it didn't do it."

Also, how are they going to get a new stadium in Tampa, when $80 million is still owed on the Trop and St Pete Mayor Bill Foster says he's not going to let them leave for Tampa before that lease runs out in 2027, while Bud Selig says that if Foster keeps playing hardball then they will be able, and have no choice, but to leave the REGION!!!

It could be the beaches, large population of elderly retirees, Disney and Busch Gardens within 100 miles, the the recession in West Florida, or perhaps something else, but the fact is that Tampa is an awful sports town and the Triangle/Carolinas would be a much needed improvement for that franchise.

So there's one persistent poster who thinks it could/should/will happen and twenty others who don't?

So, as a remedy then, Wake should spend ~$100 million or so to build a stadium for a team that will then threaten to leave in 10 years. Yeah, that sounds like a great deal for Wake County!

Twenty or so who think it shouldn't happen if it requires the taxpayers in the area to subsidize it.
