Somethings changed, then. I've had a forest employee tell me that we weren't allowed to have wine just a year ago.

I know this is a little late for your picnic the other day, but next time, keep in mind many of the vineyards in the area have beautiful grounds & welcome picnicing. They won't let you bring in outside wine, but you can buy a bottle there. Most do tastings so you can sample before you purchase. And really, you can always find something on par (price & quality-wise) with what you get at the store.

We often picnic at the local vineyards. They will open the bottle & provide you glasses (just return them when you are done). They have tables, water, and restrooms there too, all available for you to use.

That's actually exactly what we ended up doing! We picked up a picnic lunch from Parker & Otis, and then went to Southpoint Vineyards. We tried a few wines and then got glasses of our favorites and enjoyed them on the deck by the pond. It was fantastic. It was really lovely there, and although it was only 5 minutes from the mall and suburbia, it really felt like we were in a special secluded area. I want to go back every weekend!
