I should probably get my wisdom teeth extracted soon and was wondering if anyone here has had a tooth impacted in the bone removed with only a local anesthetic in the Chapel Hill area and if so, who was your surgeon? I am only asking here because I had a traumatic experience with sedation in the past.
I had Tim Turvey at the UNC Dental School do my oral surgery. He is the Chair of Oral and Maxilofacial Surgery. He not only extracted one wisdom tooth but also the surgery to move my lower jaw forward. They did a great job. For the tooth, I only had a local with no pain.
My spouse and my elderly mother both go to UNC Dental School Faculty Practice (note, these are the professors—not the students) and we've been pleased with them. My mom also saw an oral surgeon out at the Eastowne office complex when she first moved to town, but I'm blanking on his name. He was very nice and offered nitrous, but she just wanted novocaine and that was fine.
Hey that's it — Dr Ruvo is who did an extraction for my mom w/ just novocaine. They did offer the nitrous and encouraged it, but she just wanted the shot. Her's was not impacted, but the tooth had broken so it wasn't as simple as just yanking it out.
Dr. Kozacko is in North Raleigh, so a bit of a drive. He is very skillful
and his nursing staff is excellent. I've seen college kids and seniors
in his office and all seemed happy. I certainly was grateful. He is
great working people in with emergency situations.
