I spend alot of time at dog parks and we always talk about what places we've used and like or don't like. Figured it would be a good idea to create some kind of list for pet owners who move to raleigh from me and a few people I talk to.

Good Experiences
Vet: Armadale animal Hospital- Very friendly, Good service, employees seem happy to work with you, Docters seem to know what the heck they are doing!

Vet: Cozy Cat for Cats only. Really good personal care, plus they do cat grooming!!

Vet: Brier creek Vet- Friendly, great staff, they seem to care and want to help your animal. They are brand new and very clean. They only focus on vet care.

Boarding: Armadale kennel. Those who had used them didn't have anything really positive to say. And nothing too bad to say.

Grooming:Not sure if this is the exact name - Canine Country club in wakeforest. If I am wrong on the name please feel free to post a correction. The one groomer(Male) was great, but the last I heard he left that company recently. He was good with the more shy and moody dogs.

Grooming: lucky dog raleigh- Nice people, good grooming, fairly priced, small facility, Good service. Open early and you can pick up at 7pm plus you can get morning daycare! They do nail trims and clean ears for ten bucks! Good location for quick drop off.

Grooming: Purple pet Creedmore- Good service, but on the expensive side, Nice people. Morning hours. Caring people.

Grooming: Petsmart at Brier creek. Bad and partially good reviews. Depends on the groomer is what we decided. Cheaper grooming, some not so good groomers, some seem to not be trained quite right. At least they have a good cat groomer which we all seem to agree on. Don't like how you have to pay extra for this and that. "Special" Shampoo $5, Conditioner $5 etc. The best thing are the hours 7 til 9pm! And they always seem to have appointments on the same day you call. Enviroment doesn't seem to nice for the dogs or groomers. Best thing is you can see your dog, Bad thing is they seem to rough with them and we can see that. Walk in nail trims for $12.00 7-9!! Worst part is any good groomer Leaves.

Grooming:Hidden Valley Animal Hospital , people had good things to say about the grooming. But they think the groomer who they had left the company already.

Boarding: Shady grove kennels. Great for long stays, dogs seem happy, place looks clean enough, they offer grooming but it seems like its more of a bath only place for pets going home. Feels nice and feels like a family run business.

Daycare: Shady grove kennels, good for if your dog doesn't like other dogs they have indoor outdoor runs that they can stay in.

Daycare: Pupsi in Cary, Heard good reviews on the service and availability.

Daycare : Lucky dog raleigh, Good reviews on service, employees, Very clean place, We liked the screening policy and its affordable.

Bad Experiences
Vet: Banfield - Lack of care, Employees seem to be lost, they suggest medications and services that people really don't need, overcharging for services, not calling when they should on a pets condition.

Grooming: Petsmart on Capital. The staff seems to change way to often, employees seem to not really care. A few good groomers who kinda listen to what you want. It seems to hectic.

Grooming:Petco on Capital(?) They seem to always be closed so we don't know They could be really good

Grooming : Aussie Pet All bad reviews any where from they can't seem to dry a dog to they can't groom. But they do come to you for service and its great when you have family coming over and the dog smells like garbage. They seem like such a good and cute idea.

Grooming: Mutt cuts mobile. Good grooming but I think they only take small dogs now.

Not to many places with bad reviews which is really good. It would be nice if people adding onto this.

The one at 540 by the BJs? Yes, they are hard to get into sometimes because of limited hours...but I've taken my dog there three times now on a Saturday and I love the groomer and the fact I don't have to leave him there all day.

That's a very nice comprehensive list. I'll only add that I have used Ark Angels pet sitting service based in North Raleigh and I found their services to be very thorough. I had an very sick and elderly cat that I had to leave in their care for 10 days and I was very happy with everything they did for him and their documentation and follow up.

For boarding, I love the PetHotel at PetSmart on Capital Blvd. I have boarded my dogs there for YEARS. They take excellent care of my dogs and they offer alot of "pluses" like doggie day camp, treats, private personal training, etc.
Plus, your dogs are constantly supervised. All throughout the day and all throughout the night. Highly recommend!

I also recommend the dog training at Petsmart too. $99 for the entire session and its great.

For dog food, I recommend The Pet Pantry/ EXCELLENT dog food (including hollistic!) and they offer FREE delivery. If anything, check out their website and see for yourself. My dogs & cats love the food, the litterbox smell/backyard smell has cut down in half (actually I can't smell the litterbox anymore) and my pets have so much energy now.

I dont recommend PetCo at all because they dont offer a wide variety of products and they always seem to have empty shelves. I think their employees lack training too, but that's just my experience.

I forgot about pet pantry!!! Now thats a fantastic service. I highly recommend them. They bring this very high quality food to you and my pets love the stuff. I know at least 10 people who use them all with only great things to say.

What you said about Petco is so true. I was actually there two weeks ago and these two ladies were shopping for canned cat food. Well they were checking labels and noticed most of the cat food was overly expired!!!!(Don't remember which brands) I was so happy that I never buy pet food there. Anyways they called an employee over and she just kinda nodded and didn't really say anything about it. WTH??? Seriously don't they check those things? The only reason I even go there is for fish tank decorations, Cat furniture and to look for new dog beds every few months. Since they seem to have styles that no other places carry. This was at the alexander place Petco near walmart.

Ditto on The Pet Pantry and the litter box smell, also my dogs #2 turns white if it sits a while, NO fillers in their food, just high quality products.

Thor (owner) will be out at the Dogtoberfest in Oakwood Park this weekend come see him. 998 Brookside Dr - 11am - 3pm. I am sure he will have plenty of FREE samples.

I will be there too - I am a pet sitter covering the 5 Points, Glenwood South, Historic Oakwood, Mordecai and the North Hills Mall area.

My husband with Re/Max Hometown will also be set up as well as 58 other vendors it's going to be a great event with a flea market & raffles with the proceeds benefiting rescue.

There will be dog costume contests, microchip clinic, a dog rescue parade, dog free style dancing, face painting for kids, a pet photographer will be there, food, music and lots of fun to be had for all ages with lots of FREE stuff - I have printed cups to give-away and my husband has frisbees, not sure what everyone else is doing but you don't want to miss it!!

See you there!

Cindy

Great thread!

I like:

Veterinary eye specialist: Animal Eye Care in Cary - Excellent doc. They have other specialists there too.

Veterinarian: Triangle Animal Hospital, Durham. Dr. Welch found out my dog was misdiagnosed with CHF.

Emergency Vet: Triangle Emergency, Durham. (Not affiliated with Triangle Animal Hospital though is nearby).

I groom my dog myself, but I wouldn't recommend me

I have gripes with Cozy Cat. Two separate incidents, two separate cats, the first time there was an extreme lack of compassion for the situation and everyone was very cold, the second time it was improper lengthy treatment. On the second situation I had a cat treated for a month with no improvement, went to Dr. Bowman's animal hospital and we were seeing improvements within a week. You sure pay a premium though for going there but it is extremely good care.

By far the best prices I've found with a much more country feel to the vet was North Wake Forest Animal Hospital. I drove there from Cary for a less than $50 neuter, spays were less than $100 (can't remember exactly how much). Nice to get away from inflated city prices. I think I will stay in city for regular check ups but if I need an expensive procedure done I will go to him.
