Will be moving into my new apartment on 8/1. I'm going to be looking for a locksmith to change the locks as well as a good house cleaning service. Don't know how much those typically run -- anyone have any idea?? Also please send names my way if you've had good work from them in the past! Thanks!
We use Maid Brigade for several years now. They aren't the cheapest, but nowhere near the most expensive either, and they do a great job for a reasonable price. Very trustworthy and flexible. We have only part of our house cleaned every other week so the pricing is very reasonable.
Most leases do not allow you to change or add locks without written permission from the landlord. Many apartments will only allow their maintenance people or locksmith to do it. Would expect that many/most would change them just because of the liability problems if they didn't and a former tenant broke in.

You should perhaps check with your landlord about the locks. Regardless of what you do, the landlord needs to have access to your apartment.
Obviously as the others said, Check in with your landlord.
