For those that go tonite, please post your feedback. I think they are making a mistake moving it from the Fairgrounds.

Why? I am downtown already and Fayetteville Street is hopping. Loads and Loads of Family enjoying music, food from vendors and tons of entertainment all day long before the fireworks start at 9:30. Parking is plentiful and there are multiple points of access downtown making getting out tonight easier than it ever was by at the fairgrounds (I've been to Raleigh wide open with 60K other people and parking and leaving was not a problem). I saw a lot of comment on WRAL GOLO yesterday declaring the idea of moving the event downtown a flop. As of 2:00 this afternoon attendance has already proven those people completely wrong.

I can't wait to see the fireworks tonight. The show they put on for New Year's Eve was great!

Here are some shots I took of some of the activities going on at noon today just around the Capitol Building at the North End of Fayetteville Street.

I hope you get to see the fireworks. I was planning on sitting on top of my roof to watch them but the radar is starting to get active. Please take cover if you see anything popping up and let's keep our fingers crossed.

How was it? We saw the fireworks in Cary tonight. But maybe we'll check out Raleigh next year.

I was thinking that the fireworks would be a little higher. We were at the Business center, just behind Memorial Auditorium (corner of MLK and Wilmington) and missed a lot of them. People were stopped all along South Saunders, I bet they didn't see much at all. My kids are both in the middle of an allergy flare and didn't feel like doing the whole downtown thing, so I thought it would be nice to see from the car.

I didn't go, but I was wondering about how the fireworks would work with all the buildings. Not that I don't think getting more activity around downtown is a great idea, but 'view-ability' is key with fireworks and that might be where downtown loses points.
