I was reading a forum on Facebook that mentioned that Lake Michie was basically no more - no more paddle boating, fishing, and is now gated so no one could get in. A poster mentioned it was in "bad shape". I haven't been since a church picnic in the 80s (where I had a good time on the paddle boats). Can someone fill me in on what happened to the lake?
Lake Michie is open Friday-Sunday until 6 pm...They charge for private boat put-ins...Beware lake levels, as late summer-drought periods make much of the lake sandbars and impassable without polling or drudging...
But it's been like the rainiest summer EVER! Something fishy is going on, why wouldnt it be open like other lakes daily? hmmm one does wonder.
Perhaps the city decided it isn't cost effective to have the lake open daily. The same hours apply to the Little River Lake, so it isn't something specific to Lake Michie.
Got chased off the lake with my paddle board by a belligerent "lake manager." He shouted to me from across the lake that he had told me before to get off the lake and that he was calling the sheriff and I would be fined $125. When I shouted back that his accusation was a lie and that I was willing to pay and use the Lake Michie dock instead of the river put-in, he shouted back, "Naw, y'all ain't. I ain't gonna be 'sponsible fer thet thing capsizing an' y'all drownin.' Y'all can't come har, period!"
