I have done everything including getting my licensure.

What does it take to get a teaching job in Wake County? I've done everything outside of carrier pigeon and smoke signals.

What am I doing wrong?

Maybe trying to get a job in a school district that, like all in the state, has huge budget challenges and is using annual contracts to avoid the appearance of laying off teachers.

Going to be next to impossible without living here, and even then there's a hiring freeze. Plus, the teachers who've gotten laid off in the last year or two get first dibs on getting hired back. Seen it happen at our own school.

My sister did the exact same as you and until she closed on her house here, she got not so much as a nibble.

You may have better luck at picking up an "odd" teaching job after school starts. Typically, based on head-counts, they will advertise for different support positions, like tutoring, enrichment, etc. And, in January, they hire teachers to prepare kids for the EOG test. Sometimes they are not 100% positions, but I have held one before, and was offered a full-time position for the following school year.

Also, surrounding counties are easier to land your first teaching job, imo. Have you tried Johnston, Chatham, Durham counties?

Look outside Wake County. Johnston, Harnett, Cumberland and Guliford may be hiring. Get a job -- move -- teach for a year and then try Wake if that is where you really think you want to be.

What is your certification area? If your area is not high demand, I would imagine that there are plenty of qualified folk here to fill positions.

I'd add Lee County, as last year they hired at least one out of state teacher for her first job.

I was hired 2 years ago to teach from out of state. Last year we had 5-6 new teachers in our school that were hired out of state. The hiring freeze has been lifted, you need to send resumes directly to the hiring principals and make phone calls. New jobs are posted on the Wake county site on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Good luck!

Have you tried Durham? I just got hired at an elementary school in Durham, I had a few interviews in that county. This was a bit before the Wake freeze was lifted. And I am coming from Cumberland County. You might just need to expand your search to near areas. Good luck!
