If you plan to take advantage of this often, shoes are only about $40 and you can probably find them for less.

For adults, I definitely recommend getting a pair of shoes. Even if you only go bowling 3-4 times a year, the shoes will stay good for quite a while.

With kids, you have to do the cost analysis. Will you go bowling at least 10 times before the shoe size changes?

I can often find adult bowling shoes at Goodwill, but kids shoes I don't see come up as often.

Ahh, but bowling just wouldn't be the same without the feeling of rented shoes, the smell of Aqua Net and cigarette smoke, and the sound of polyester rubbing together.

I have a pair of bowling shoes I bought on clearance for $20 at Dick's. They look like nursing shoes lol. I don't bowl very often but the shoes have already paid for themselves a couple times over.

Striking Results Pro Shop has a special that looks pretty good. Includes a ball, drilling, a bag and shoes for $125. I think I'll go down and check it out.
