We will be coming for our house hunting trip with our kids mid-July. We will be looking in Cary, Holly Springs, Apex and Clayton. We would like to stay somewhere that is fun for our kids. Anyone have any suggestions?

At the very minimum, we need somewhere with a nice pool.

Thanks!
Susan

Fun as is things within walking distance from the hotel? Or fun as in amenities at the hotel? The Embassy Suites in Cary is nice and an easy drive to all the places you'll be looking. The Marriott and Sheraton in downtown Raleigh are great for being walking distance to the museums, etc. All of them have nice pools.

Susan- is there any reason that you are looking in Clayton...while it does provide value, you are in Johnston County schools. Others (likely those that live there) that JC schools are good, they are not anywhere as good as NW Cary, Apex or Chapel Hill schools. Regarding hotels, you might want to check out several in airport Morrisville area and rtp area they are not 5 star but probably are a great fit for what you are looking for (nice pools..it is forecasted to be in the 100s this weekend, so a pool will be great)
We have stayed at a Marriott residence Inn, the Sheraton, embassy suites and Hilton garden inn..all were good for kids and provided more room and free breakfast, plus a pool.

Btw, I am not an agent, but find value into this forum to hear and share with others)...

Not sure what your price point is for homes, as that will certainly determine your options, but highly recommend the family neighborhoods in Northwest Cary for schools, location, ability for you to resell....do be aware of where 540 is and will run..you can read all about that issue in the forum....

Thanks for your reply, steelermedallion. We are looking in Clayton because I am a little worried about the reassignment issues in Wake County. We had one visit so far, but it was short, and we didn't even get to Clayton, so I'm just keeping it as an option. It looks like although the schools weren't rated necessarily as well as Wake County, they still had good ratings. Am I missing something?

Your input is really helpful. Our price range is up to $240, looking for 4 bedrooms (or 3 with bonus room), at least .25 acre lot, preferably a community with a pool and a lot of kids.

Thanks!

Thank you, evaofnc. Those are great suggestions. We will have a rental car, so I'm more so thinking of amenities at the hotel. But it doesn't have to be activity central either. The goal is to find a house this trip, but we want to keep the kids happy, too .

Cary/Apex are great for kids and great schools. Tons of neighborhoods with kids. These two suburbs border each other.
Cary is a huge area so depends on where. West Cary is good but as others mentioned, beware of the 540 coming through.
If you want a suburb with still a touch of small town feel with a nice historic downtown, then choose Apex >> Cary.

Holly Springs would be my second choice just because it is farther south and still developing.

Clayton would be my absolute last choice. It's in a totally different part of the city, south of Raleigh.
It's farther out, it's more country like b/c of some undeveloped areas. Not a lot of diversity. Schools not as favorable.
There's a reason why homes are much cheaper in Clayton.

There's nothing wrong with Clayton except being a PITA for commuting if you're working anywhere west of Clayton. Every morning on the radio traffic report it's, "Slowdowns at the Clayton bypass. Accident at the Clayton bypass. Traffic crawling at the Clayton bypass." lol

My husband will be working near Tryon Rd. and Route 1. How long would you think that commute would be from mid-Clayton? I really appreciate your help. If you need any info on the Chicago area...i'm your girl...LOL.

During rush hour it wouldn't surprise me if it takes an hour. No point living that far east when you can find housing in Cary/Apex/Holly Springs in your price range easily. Unless your husband likes sitting in traffic lol.
