That still doesn't explain what's going to happen with the Union Station idea. The light rail station was only a small piece of the overall station plan. The building Citrix is taking over was supposed to be for Amtrak and the eventual high speed rail from my understanding.
See the first link in my first post. The TIGER grant is to fund the first phase of the Union Station project. I think the original Union Station plan was scaled down for funding reasons (can't find the background info on that at the moment), but it does seem to be moving ahead without interference from Citrix. There will be a citizens workshop regarding Union Station on Aug. 6 for anyone interested: Union Station Citizens Information Workshop - The Official City of Raleigh Portal.
TTA bought all these buildings way before they knew exactly what they were going to do. Now that the Union Station plans are more flushed out, it allows them to free up the other buildings for development, which has been stymied in that area for years while the rail plans festered. This is not going to stop any of the rail plans going forward.

Again as others have said, the building Citrix is taking was marked as surplus. It was deemed not necessary for the rail station plans. The station they are going to build will service more than just light rail and be in the area highlighted in my previous post.
