To my knowledge, AT&T is the only true phone company "in Raleigh." Are you interested in companies that provide service in other parts of the Triangle? I know CenturyLink provides service in some outlying areas (I believe that's the former Verizon landline business here which they sold off).
The former Verizon Landline business was sold to Frontier. CenturyLink was formerly Embarq which we have here in Clayton.
We gave up AT&T when their service on our basic landline was just lousy in 2 different apartments. AT&T couldn't diagnose problems or provide lasting fixes for even this old technology service.
Now use TWC for Internet, phone, and TV. Almost never an outage and good tech support.
If the employer you are discussing is AT&T, are you sure there's a future there?
