I was driving home from an appt today, and nearly got run over. Repeatedly. I was doing 47 in the left lane headed toward High House from Kildaire Farm Rd area, and I swear, I was nearly run off the road.

What gives? That road has a 45mph posted speed limit. It's not a highway. It's just a road with 2 lanes running in either direction.

I needed to be in the left lane, so I chose that one.

Is there some new rule everyone made up to which I am not savvy?

Help a girl out (since none of y'all know anyone who lives in Copperleaf).

People drive like madmen on Cary Parkway. It's only by the grace of god there aren't more accidents on it.

People do drive way too fast on Cary Parkway. I'm mostly on it during rush hour when both lanes are full, but people still ride my rear bumper as I am preparing for a left onto West Chatham. Highly annoying!

If you aren't actively passing another vehicle... pull right.
Especially if you have someone behind you.

The speeds involved are immaterial.

On a two lane non-highway road? Could you imagine the backups if people did this?

Making left turns from the right lane can be hazardous at any speed. On Cary Parkway, one is wise to take the lane they need early, particularly in traffic.

Well if you are in the left lane and someone is behind you be considerate get over and let them pass. Don't be in the left lane for no reason. I agree if you need to take a left turn up ahead get over like 1000ft before hand but do not ride 5 miles in the left lane for no reason. I see all the time people riding in the left lane on the highway and no one is even around them. I guess its just me but left lanes are usually for passing. Then again I was raised on European traditions (my father was born in Germany) and this is how people in Europe drive.

On local roads, I do not consider 2 lane roads as having passing lanes. Only on highways. Cary Parkway is a local road where people actually need to make left turns.

I try not to ride in the left lane unless I am going to be making a turn imminently. Especially if people are riding my arse - not worth it.

Cary Parkway is ridiculous how fast people go - thankfully I don't often have cause to be on it.

I see a lot of non-locals are thinking this is referring to a Highway-type parkway. That's not the case here.

As an aside there was a woman driving down High House this morning, going 20 mph and texting the whole way - stopping about 100 feet before every stop light. It was RIDICULOUS. This went on for a couple of miles. A woman, not a teen.
