Where do older folks from the Raleigh area like to go on vacation? Specifically, where do you go when you are not visiting relatives, but just want to enjoy the scenery, foods, customs, or events of somewhere different than where you live?

Depends if I remember to charge my scooter. On a full charge I can get to the senior center 4 blocks away.

Typically my wife and I tend to prefer the mountains--Morganton and even Salisbury. We also love Lexington as well. If we are feeling charged, we have been known to pay a visit to Little Washington (wife's favorite) or Morehead City / Atlantic Beach (my favorite). Once in awhile we compromise and head for Wilmington.

I guess I was asking about places for seniors because amusement parks and singles cruises aren't what I had in mind. Charleston is a good idea, and thanks, zthatzman for the more local suggestions. By Lexington, I assume you mean in NC?

Indeed, Lexington NC. BBQ is an art there. Little Washington, NC and of course Atlantic Beach, NC. We have always wanted to visit Greensboro. There really is so much to see just in NC. Our extended trip is usually down to Savannah, Georgia.
