I am hosting a family reunion at my house in Apex and need to suggest a few places for people to stay. Something relatively inexpensive and closeby would be our preference, but it needs to be clean and well-kept. I don't want to be blamed for putting family in a flea bag! Anyone have any suggestions?

My nephew and family recently stayed in the Courtyard by Marriott near McGregor; no idea of the cost but they said it was nice.

There are a few hotels near US1 and 55. Your options are:

Holiday Inn Express
Comfort Inn
Candlewood Suites
Value Place
Americas Best Value Inn

These are all in Apex by the way.

When we first moved here, we stayed at the Residence Inn in Cary, in the Regency area near WakeMed, Routes 1 & 64, Tryon, etc. It was nice.

My parents used to stay at that Holiday Inn....my mom is EXTREMELY picky about cleanliness - she's the type that if you spill something during dinner she will mop the floor while you're still eating.

We stayed at Holiday Inn Express in late August when we visited Apex. It's generally clean and the breakfast is decent. The hotel is somewhat hidden from the the highway and so we missed it the first time, and had to turn around. It's in the same area as Candlewood Suites.

Unfortunately, the room had a musty smell everytime we entered it. But once you're in the room, you don't really smell it anymore.

If your family doesn't mind a 10 minute drive, we stayed at Wingate by Wyndham off Corporate Ridge during the same vacation. It was a better experience than Holiday Inn - it's newer, smells better, and offers more breakfast choices.

Many hotels will offer a discount rate if you make arrangement ahead of time. Just be sure the rate isn't based on a guaranteed number of rooms or nights.

We've done this for several reunions. It's nice to come down to breakfast and meet up with family members, car pool to reunion site, hang around the pool together.

Have fun.
