Can you tell me if this is a development worth checking out? Looking for a place near the Capitol building but do not want more than 30 minutes commute. Hoping to find a nice 4br, 2 1/2 bath hone for around $325-350k, but that's our high end.
Would Apex or Holly Springs or Fuguay Varina be a closer commute?
Wakefield is close to Capital Blvd but not downtown Raleigh. Capital Blvd has a lot of traffic in the mornings and evenings that it would likely take longer than 30 minutes to get there. Falls of the Neuse might be faster.
Apex and Holly Springs would be a long commute as well. Fuquay Varina is closer to downtown Raleigh.

Thanks so much!!!
Cary, West Raleigh, the North Hills or Crabtree area would be closer. Downtown has some nice town homes.
you should be able to find a home in that range much closer than Wakefield if that's what you want. It might be an "older" home - meaning anywhere from 1970 - 1999 - but great neighborhoods and proximity to both downtown Raleigh, the highways, and RTP.
Yeah, I wouldn't hope for any short commute if I was buying in Wakefield and trying to get downtown daily. Capital Blvd is already bad and as big as it is, its choked with lights and too much traffic. Its the most congested road in Raleigh now and future development and area growth promise to make it worse than it is over time.
Raleigh needs to do what Charlotte did with Independence Blvd and turn it into a segregated highway with ramps to get into shopping areas.

Atlantic Ave was supposed to be the faster route to DT from N. Raleigh. It was sold as a road with minimal development....right!
Do you know of any specific neighborhoods in North Raleigh worth checking out? Or, suggestions in West Cary?
East Cary would be better than West Cary since Cary is west of Raleigh, and you'd have to go through or around Cary from W Cary. I would suggest using a mapping site such as Google Maps, putting in addresses that look interesting, and using "1 E Edenton St" for the address to compare to--that is the NC Capitol, and will give an idea of what kind of commute (distance and time) to downtown you are looking at.
To answer your question, Wakefield is MUCH farther from downtown than 20 minutes.
You could rent in Cary. As Francois said, east Cary is a quick route to downtown. I live near SAS off 40 and Harrison and I can get to the Capitol in 20 minutes with no problems.

Ahhh. You're buying. Still doable on this side of Cary.
