I agree. I was never a fan of the choice plan and spoke out against it but they should stick with it and make the necessary adjustments.

Im newer to the area and with school aged children and still making heads or tails of everything. Fortionately, we love our base school but are still trying learn the history ( as it differs greatly from where we came from)and what is going on currently. I would be interested in hearing why you were not a fan of the choice plan.

If you read through this thread you will find a lot of people talking about why the choice plan did not make sense in the way they implemented it. Most of it has to do with logistics which the school board didn't seem to take into consideration at all.

Same here. I wasn't a fan of it, either. I just don't see why they shouldn't stick with it until they can do the necessary research to come up with another plan.

New Wake school board chairman vows to move panel forward - Wake County - NewsObserver.com

Blah blah blah.

We've all heard all these wonderful empty promises before. The last thing we need at this point is a career politician leading the board.

Has anyone else seen their actual assignments yet? My oldest is a rising 6th grader, and is supposed to be assigned to the base school assigned to our address (not the middle school that her current elementary school feeds into). So I went online to register for an account and what do you know -- they have her assigned to the feeder middle school, not our base middle school.

So I went to click on "declare" to return her to the base school and I got a message saying that she's not eligible for Base Declaration and to call the office of student assignment.

Tried that number for 15 minutes and finally got through to an automated voice asking me for school level and zip code. Then it sent me to the person assigned to my area and told me to leave a voicemail. But the voicemail box is full. Fun times.

Did you get her assignment strip yet?

I think they are going to have a big issue this year with rising 6th and 9th graders that want to stay in their current feeder.

I would like to rate this the WORST thread in CD / Triangle history. Every time I see a new post in it, it just reminds me how incompetent, ignorant, partisan, stupid, and corrupt our school board is. The school board's bickering and childish behavior is really really starting to get under my skin.

Thankfully my last child is in high-school now. This disaster will soon be off my mind forever (? hopefully).

I haven't seen her assignment strip yet because I'm still at work. But I have to assume that it is being populated by the same computer program that is populating the official assignment application (which is similar to the application during the choice period last year).
