I believe the Myth Busters TV showed that the sprays, covers, etc. did nothing to defeat red light cameras.

I think when they are fully toll road, if they not open yet, it will be open toll road which there will be no toll plaza just scanner to read your ezpass or take pciture of your plate and mail you the bill plus processing fees, that way they can force people to get onto the Ezpass ...

You would need something James Bond-esque, where you press a button and your license plate rotates or flips up when you go through the cameras, then you press the button again and it returns to normal.

Default sticker vs hard case

just wondering the difference between the sticker vs hard case version of the quick pass. If a sticker version works why a hard case ?

If you plan to use your Quick Pass on toll facilities in other states, you'll need to have the hard case version. The sticker will only work in NC.

Note that even hard case customers can't use their transponders out of state yet...agreements aren't yet in place but the last word I saw was they were hoping by the end of the year.

The hard case is designed for future use outside of NC with EZPass and other automatic toll collection systems. So to make it simple:

if you plan on never leaving NC with your car, get the sticker
If you want to use your Quick Pass at EZPass toll booths up I-95 in the future, get the hard case.

From what I read they hope to get the agreement with EZ Pass by the end of the year.

The hard case is also required for certain makes/models of cars where the sticker can't be properly read so if you've got one of those, you have to have the hard case.

And also from a more practical standpoint, the hard case is more removable than the sticker so if you don't want a fairly permanent decal affixed to your windshield, that also might sway your decision. I thought about getting a hard case even though my car wasn't on the 'required' list because I didn't really like the idea of gumming up my windshield but went with the sticker anyway because of the price difference. However, I'm pleasantly surprised at how unobtrusive it is.

The higher toll is what's supposed to encourage you to get a transponder.

Not entirely true. Vehicles with windshield issues can't use either the sticker or the hard case. They need to have a special exterior transponder that costs $25. As far as I know, if the regular hard case transponder works inside the car, the sticker would too.

Here are details on the cars that need an external transponder.

Either way, you're sticking something to your windshield, whether it be the sticker directly or velcro strips for the hard case. Not sure what kind of strips they use here, but we never removed the velcro from our FasTrak transponders after we moved from California because it looked like it would be an awful mess and it wasn't that ugly to leave them up there.
