I was pulled over for speeding (allegedly), the cop took my license and registration. He came back and told me the speed limit on the various roads in the area. He handed me back my license and registration and told me to have a good day. He didn't give me a citation or indicate that he was issuing one however I was wondering if I should expect one in the mail. I was once in downtown Raleigh, I ran over on my meter and when I got to my car it had an envelope on it but no citation. A few weeks later I got a bill in the mail. I've never been pulled over so I'm not sure of what to expect.
IF anyone is willing to share their incite or experiences I'd more than appreciate it.
Agreed; was it a regular patrol car? They print up the ticket right in the car. If you didn't get anything to sign, it absolutely sounds to me like he let you go.
There's a degree of reasonableness with regards to the police and traffic stops here in Raleigh that needs to be commended. First time I was ever pulled over I was clearly speeding and in conditions that made it that much riskier. I had a plausible explanation, didn't insult the officers intelligence and he let me me go with a warning. Two years later I was ticketed for driving a vehicle with expired tags and once I proved everything was brought current was let go with neither a fine paid nor a point added to my license.
I started out in New York where these sort of things just don't happen. It's nice to deal with a police force which seems more concerned with public saftey than with generating revenue.
I'm 99% sure you didn't get a ticket but on the off chance the officer forgot to hand it to you: google AOC NC court calendar. You can search your last name in Wake county to see if you have a date in the near future. Probably smart to check just in case.
The key was when he gave you your license and registration and said have a good day. They always bring the ticket with them when they give you the lic and reg. He hooked you up.
Thanks everyone, I know it seemed like a silly question but since I've never been stopped I didn't know if there was some new program where they mail it instead. I know there are officers who let people go (I've heard about it) however after the parking citation and I had heard that they have to do just as much paperwork whether they give the ticket or not I was concerned.
Forgot to add. If you had gotten a ticket, you would have gotten 10 letters from various law firms by now.
