Thanks to everyone for responses. We are a Sri Lankan family moving from Rockville, MD. We definitely would not mind 30 min one way traffic. ( It is a breeze compared to my hubsband's one hour each way trip to DC). Great to know that there are 2 Buddhist temples in Cary. We are planning on a trip to Cary and Chapel hill over Spring Break.

One more question

I have been looking online for jobs for CPAs or accountants. I did not see too many of them. Does anyone have an idea how the job market in Cary surrounding areas are for a CPA?

Thank you
Nisha

I work in accounting and would say there aren't many jobs, and it's highly competitive for the ones that are available.

How about Raleigh? Not too many Accounting jobs there as well?

I'm talking about the whole Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill-Cary area. The last full-time job I had, I somehow managed to beat out over 400 other people who applied for the position (many from out of town). And that was the only interview I had in six months of looking.

I'm working part-time now for a previous employer as I study for the CPA exam and I don't expect to have an easy time finding a full-time job next year (even with 20+ years of experience). This is a highly desirable area to live, and lots of people want to move here. As a result, employers are inundated with resumes every time they post a position and they can be very very picky about their requirements.

This is just my personal opinion of course.. others may see it differently.

I don't know anything specifically about the accounting field, but the employment opportunities are much less here than in the DC area. Look at the employment pages sometime. In DC, it does not feel like there is a recession going on. Here, it is clear that the economy is not nearly as good. In DC, there seem to be jobs everywhere (although not necessarily what you want). Here I look at the want ads, and it is depressing. The few jobs I see, the pay is extremely low.

We moved here 3 months back. I am familiar with MD suburbs area near DC. CH is a very nice town but Cary will fit what you are looking for very well.
