moved from ny to wake forest 5 months ago and having a hard time adjusting.Anyone else going through the same?
I feel for you, Calvacca. I find that moving is always hard. The first 6 months is the worst for me. At first I am awed & excited by the "newness" of everything, but then that wears off & it hits me - I live here! Sometimes it helps when I fly "home" to vist family & friends, but often that makes me feel worse when I return to my new town.
What helps me is just getting out. Think about the things you liked to do - walking in the park, eating at locally owned restaurants, poking about in the library - and just get out there & do it! Eventually you'll develop a little list of your favorite places in the area.
Another thing that helps me is knowing that I have options. I know that if for some reason things don't work out in my new town, I can always move. Oddly enough, I'm more likely to be content with where I am if I know that it isn't being forced upon me.

Hi, know how you're feeling I am a native Ny'er but moved to Raleigh from Ft Lauderdale about one month ago, it's no doubt rough adjusting I lived in Fl almost 30 yrs. in fact my wife is still down there hoping to sell our home ( not a great time to be a seller) I am here alone working and living in a small 1BR apt. shall I go on LOL ? What part of NY are you from ? I was born and raised in Brooklyn.....
I seem to like it compared to Fl. will be better when my wife joins me., guess time will tell it all, well best of luck to you !
good one metro mike!maybe i need a little more of that.the area is nice its just very different from what im used to.It's a bit of a culture clash.
Try Downtown Raleigh. I'm a Raleigh native, but I've lived in other large cities. Wake Forest is the country to me. It would take some adjusting for me also, because I've always lived inside the beltline. So don't think it's a north vs south thing. It's an urban versus rural thing. Trust me. I'm currently looking at moving to The Cotton Mill or Park Devereux downtown.
Im from long island, born in brooklyn.MY whole family is originally from brooklyn now on the island.I moved with my wife and kids because of the weather, housing, quality of life etc.Although i think the area has alot of nice things especially for kids I feel like I will never be comfortable here .It's very different the people, food, sprawl.
LOL metro.m!!!!! It took me a minute to "get it". I was thinking WTH is wrong with that guy?
Must be the native North Carolinian in me!
