My brother has advanced ALS. He's now at the point that he cannot stand in the shower even with assistance. His wife is wearing out having to take care of him 24/7 and needs a break a day a week. The story is very long, but he has maxed out his insurance benefits because of a horrible accident a year ago. They have already investigated available services, but they are not eligible yet. Since he is on a ventilator, hospice cannot get involved.

I'd like to find an individual (not a home health care company) who can sit with him a half or whole day one day per week or so. Previous experience with suctioning equipment and willingness to bath a grown man is required. Funds are exceedingly limited, so I'm hoping to find someone who is only looking for a few hours per week, not a full-time job. His church has been super helpful, but no one in the congregation is experienced in this level of care.

If you or someone you know is interested, please send me a direct message. He lives in Zebulon.

My heart goes out to you, you brother, his wife and your whole family. This is an insidious disease and I cannot imagine the day to day challenges you are faced with. God bless you all.

Have you contacted the local ALS Chapter? They are absolutely wonderful, we have volunteered with them for years. My wife's grandfather passed away from it several years back. They have have a great support network and can help point you in the right area.
