We are building a new home and had it wired for cable AND satellite.

We currently live in an apartment with Time Warner Cable TV and Internet. We added HBO, Showtime and a DVR. We are very unhappy with the DVR (the search function is like using Internet Explorer from 1992) and the On Demand screws up about 50% of the time. We are okay with their internet service.

So we are looking at other options for TV service in the new house. We want the following:

ONE TV that has a DVR, on demand, HBO, Showtime, and expanded cable channels (no sports or foreign language channels required). This is a Smart TV and we will have wireless internet service (probably through TWC, but might consider another GOOD, FAST, RELIABLE alternative).

We have another TV, and if that can get the expanded cable, that would be good. But we don't want to pay for another box, and would consider purchasing a digital antenna allowing that TV to only receive the local channels. (It's in the guest room, so we don't really use it).

I hate the idea of signing a contract, but realize that's what we probably will have to do. We don't need a landline telephone, already have cellular service with Verizon and don't expect to add any more TV's in the future. We had TIVO years ago and loved that software (especially the search capabilities), but don't want to buy the hardware again.

I know there are other threads on this issue but most seem to be talking about multiple TV's, great sports programming, etc. which just isn't applicable.

Decided to go with DirecTV as couldn't bring myself to the enormous fee's that TWC charges... $40+/month for cable box... C'MON MAN!!!!

I thought Comcast was bad, but TWC is by far the worst company I have seen.

Plus we signed up for the Turbo internet service which they say you need to have a specific modem, well I bought that modem and they say it isn't compatible... was told by TWC to have the modem... again, C'MON man...
