Hello,
I currently live in pa and do not like it. I have lived here all my life. I have vacationed to nc and have always enjoyed it vs pa. I know sales and income tax rates are higher then pa but is the extra cost worth it to not have a bad winter? I hate winter and heard nc rarely gets snow. I have also checked out nc DMV site and was wondering if I'm right in saying 72/year for tags and safty and emmissions a year? Also saw something called a personal property tax on cars (05 corolla) which I'm hoping Isn't drastically high! What companies are there for cable or electric in capital area? Is the cost high there for homes? I'd like to rent a town home ideally. What do they typically rent for here? I am in the IT field and have seen numerous jobs right up my alley around the capital area, so hoping that will be easy to switch. Any other info you can provide is helpful!

Our moderator has very helpfully assembled a huge thread answering a lot of basic "I want to move there" questions. People are asked to read that thread and the links within it--which answer most potential newcomers' questions--before posting new ones.

The thread is here.

It is also easier for people to better answer your questions if you limit each post to one or two related questions, than a long list of many topics.

You seem to be focusing on minor cost of living differences in many different areas. If you look at the entire spectrum, costs are not going to be that much different. I think the important things would your friend and family connections, your job, and the neighborhood you will live in,

What a great info source that thread is! Perhaps it should be a sticky.

not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, but it is already a sticky.

OP - i concur with francois. take a look at that thread & then post specific questions in separate threads. that will allow for more specific answers to your questions.

yay for dark of the moon's thorough compilation!

Hi,
I will be moving to Durham from Mississippi for work in Feb 2013 and I am looking for a 1 bedroom in a safe apartment complex near W. Main Street, Durham. Any apartment suggestions will be greatly appreciated. My current shortlist is Dupont Circle, University Commons, Bradford Ridge and Poplar West. Are these safe places to live? Thanks a lot for your help!
