Just got this e-mail from my friends at TWC:

"To thank you for being a Time Warner Cable customer, we want you to have a better Internet experience on all your devices. That's why we're making your current Standard Internet download speed up to 50% faster."
Going from 10/1 to 15/1 Mbps.

Woohoo! Gotta hold onto my hat Or did my Modem fee pay for this

Thanks for the heads up! I'm with Earthlink and can confirm the bump in DL speed as well. The UL speed remains at 1MBps:

The e-mail said to unplug your modem for 10 seconds, plug it back in then reboot your computer...and like magic, we're jetting through the interweb.

No modem fee on Earthlink. Same speed bump.

Too bad Earthlink doesn't offer the 30/5 service. Of course no speed bump there, and much higher pricing. Maybe its time I threaten to drop down a level or two.

I never thought I'd see "Time Warner Cable" and "gratis" in the same sentence

(but I digress)

I learned in college econ 101 that there's no such thing as a free speed increase.

Exactly this is just paying us back for that $3.99 across the board upcharge for the supposed general modem upgrades back in October? We weren't born yesterday.

I didn't want to start a new thread, but are the options for internet in Raleigh? TWC and ATT? I was hoping for Verizon fios when I moved, but it doesn't look like that's happening. 15/1 is a decent speed. I think it's what I get with WOW in Michigan.

We have been hoping and wishing for FiOS for years. It hands down runs circles around the others and for as technologically savvy a place as Raleigh/Durham is you would think we would have all the latest and greatest. Sadly we do not.
