I have the address and parcel number and can see the deed recorded in public records earlier in the year but when I look on the tax database it still shows the property as belonging to the original owner with no recent sale. How can I determine the sale price?

If Durham uses imap like Wake you can find it on there. Try doing a google search for Durham County imap.

I found Imap for Durham, it is called GoMaps. I looked up the parcel ID but there is no sales $ info. The new owner is listed on GoMaps but when I click on Tax Info it still lists the original owner.

In Wake county, any time there is a deed transfer it is listed in the paper along with the price (even if it is $0, like between divorcing parties). I can't find anything similar for Durham county.

Hmm well that sucks. I wonder if Durham County makes you go down to the county courthouse to look it up. I know Wake used to be that way many years ago.

YOu might try zillow.com
Also, it may be that its just not recorded yet....was the sale recent, like in the last 30-60 days?

There used to be a link with all of the Durham county public records to look up such a thing, but just recently they have changed it. You can start here and poke around, but I looked and looked and can't find an equivalent of what used to be there (like what Wake and some other counties have). I do a lot of volunteer work updating nonprofit mailing lists and had bookmarks for those records in every county that lists them, but Durham has changed their site and the real estate records are one thing I can no longer find.

Go into the Durham Register of Deeds site and input the former owner's name as Grantor.
This should bring up any deed granted by that individual.
Look at the Tax Stamps, and that will let you determine the price within $500.

If it was an MLS sale, any Realtor can look it up on MLS for you, and also see any closing costs paid.

Not an MLS Sale. Thanks for the info. I had the deed info with the tax amount. What is the excise tax rate on real estate sales?

Cut it in half.

$1200 tax stamps = $600,000 sale.

$1.00/$500, or any portion of $500, in sales price.
