I have been living in the Raleigh area for 3 months now and my supply of Sclafani tomatoes has run out. All my local supermarkets only carry Hunts and Cento. I am a sause snob and would rather buy ragu in a jar before making a sause of my own with those two brands. Can anyone refer me to where I can pick up a good can of whole tomatoes?

I recommend Capriflavors :: How San Marzano Tomatoes are Harvested and Canned :: Fine Importer of Italian Products (broken link)

My second choice is Welcome to Muir Glen : organic tomatoes, pasta sauces, salsas and soups Use the store locator on their website. Most supermarkets carry Muir Glen.

If the typical grocery store doesn't help - try Second Season in Chapel Hill. They also have all sorts of pasta that you might have trouble finding (in addition to the tomatoes).

Just to clarify, the shop is called Southern Season.

In any case, Whole Foods sells a good selection of tomatoes, and I'm able to get San Marzanos at Harris Teater...
