We are new to the area and have seen some homes that we really like in the Stonebridge neighborhood in North Raleigh. Couple of questions for those familiar with this neck of the woods:
1) I realize that the Wake County schools are constantly in flux, but at least for the foreseeable future, it looks like Millbrook High School would be the "base" school for the 2013-14 school year. Any thoughts on this school relative to others in the area, like Leesville Road for example?
2) Does anyone know what the average commute time might be from this neighborhood to RTP and to downtown Raleigh?
Any other thoughts - relative to nearby shopping/amenities, kid-friendly atmosphere, etc. - would be very much welcome and appreciated!
For Stonebridge, the commute to RTP will depend on *where* in RTP you are going. I would say 20 minutes on the lower end, 30 minutes on the upper end. While I don't drive on I-540 much, the times I have the morning rush hour commute has been fine, with little to no backup. Afternoons, though, sees a good deal of backup from I-70 to Leesville Road. It only seems to adds a couple of minutes to the commute, but I abhor traffic so I do my best to avoid it.
I don't have a lot of comments on the high schools, as my son is not even in middle school yet. I know Millbrook is now an International Baccalaureate magnet school.
For shopping, you will be driving South of I-540 as Stonebridge is in the Falls Lake watershed. There is plenty available along Strickland Road, both off Creedmoor and Six Forks roads.
Thank you so much, rfb! That is really very helpful information and I definitely appreciate it! It's so nice to find this forum where people are so helpful - AND to be back in the south again where the people are so friendly! :-) Thanks again.
I live right beside Stonebridge and it's about 35 minutes to work for me right near downtown, off-peak times. But being right by Six Forks is very convenient from everything from North Hills north. The movie theatres at Six Forks Station are NEVER crowded, even opening weekends!
Thanks, Francois! Very helpful! Any idea what it might take to get to downtown Raleigh during peak/rush hour times? Also, any thoughts on Millbrook Highschool?
