Just received a letter from Time Warner Cable. They are increasing pretty much everything by $2.00 beginning March 2013.

Why is it that they never have rate decreases? They make it so easy to leave or look else where.

Yes, I have them for internet and tire of the increases (and have called to try and negotiate with some success - limited). Of course, Dish Network just did the same thing (though I'm generally happy with them, I see a trend!).

Directv also goes up pretty much every year. Personally, I think it is worth it, so I pay it, but given the costs of programming going up every year and the fact that no one really likes it when their desired channels are shut off in a dispute, it's pretty much inevitable.

If you're interested in the issues behind what cable companies and other utilities charge, here's a book for you to read:

The Fine Print: How Big Companies Use "Plain English" to Rob You Blind: David Cay Johnston: 9781591843580: Amazon.com: Books

Warning: if you read it right before going to bed, it's pretty depressing.

Are you referring to the leaf antenna? I've heard good things. I'm on the other side of the state, but do you get anything beyond the local channels with that. I used to live in Buffalo, NY, and we dropped cable before we left, and for some reason I ended up picking up TBS and TNT, during a channel scan, which was nice.

I switched to Earthlink months ago, based on several recommendations from this forum. I'm very happy with my bill now. Thanks to those who posted about it!

Apparently TWC only drops your rates if Google Fiber is being installed in your area. Amazing how competition leads to lower prices.
