I am planning for a road trip from Raleigh, NC to Houston, TX by the end of March along with my wife and daughter. Wanted route suggestions along with must see places on the way. We love nature and request appropriate suggestions. All suggestions are most welcome.

So many ways to go . . . The route depends on what you like. You could do a direct route per google maps (1200 miles, three days), or skim along the Atlantic coast and do Charleston, Savannah, and Panama City to New Orleans then on to Houston. Take the bayou back way out of New Orleans (US 90) for a more scenic trip Be sure to check out Avery Island, LA for the white egrets and Tabasco sauce. This route is about 1500 miles.
The direct route involves Atlanta, I suggest you see the patriotic display at Stone Mountain if you go that way.
The other choice is to go via Nashville and Memphis TN and Little Rock AR. Plenty to see that way, too. That is about 1300 miles. It might be worthwhile to join AAA and consult with them TripTix used to be a good way to discover attractions and get discounts. You should have a good road service contract anyway.

Check the Trip Advisor Forums. They give great advice on the road trips forums and refer people back over here when they get relocation questions.

You'll find interesting things to see along the way no matter which route you take. However, we found the most scenic and relaxing route to be to go west through Asheville to Knoxville and then either head SW through Chattanooga and Birmingham or continue west through Nashville and Memphis and then choose your route through East Texas. It also depends on how quickly you want to get there. I also recommend checking Trip Advisor for suggestions of "must see" places along the various routes.

Love AAA TripTix and their tour guide books are great way to check out must-sees along the way.

Personally, I like the southern route for the scenery. But Asheville and Nashville are enticing too. Depends on what your family enjoys.

Default Ho-hum

It's pretty much routine and humdrum no matter which routes you take. If you have the time, and want to see how people really live, stay off the Interstate highways -- and return using a different route.

Something really interesting to see would be the second longest (25 miles) bridge on the planet -- the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, north of New Orleans. It ain't scenic; it ain't even pretty; but it's something of an engineering marvel. If you're goin' that way anyway, y'all may as well use the Causeway. It's not outta the way.

Lake Pontchartrain Causeway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Have a nice trip and be safe. Safety is free; take all you want; use what you take.
